So the magnifying glass and the magnifying glass with the plus sign in it are supposed to both do the same thing?

No, they're not the same.
The one without the plus is search (brings up the window to enter a search term) and the one with the plus is "search again", or "next" (without bringing up the window).

Ah, I see. It was always doing the same thing when I hit both buttons because I didn't actually do a search. Thanks!
