I'm not exactly a newby (I've had iSilo v1 for a couple of years), but I'm new to iSilo 4x, which is quite a bit different. I'm having trouble getting the scroll buttons on my Palm IIIx (Palm OS 3.1.1) to scroll the document I'm reading. The buttons work fine when viewing the iSilo manual, but with all of the other documents I've tried it works erratically-- sometimes the scroll buttons work, sometimes they don't. Most of the time they don't. The PDA is fine (was working great with iSilo v1 yesterday). I've tried altering the settings in Options-Scroll and Options-Button. Both seem to be set correctly (i.e. the up-down buttons are set to page up and page down), but when I push the scroll buttons nothing happens. Am I totally missing something, is this a bug, or what?
There is no known bug with regards to the hardware up/down buttons.
Which specific version of iSilo are you using and would you be able to post one of the documents for which the buttons do not seem to work and describe for that document the exact behavior that you observe?
I'm using iSilo v 4.01. The latest version appears to be quite a bit larger, and my Palm IIIx has a fixed 4 meg memory.... storage space is definitely an issue! I'd be happy to post a copy of a document, however the file size may be a bit large for this forum (between 100k-200k), and you'll have to give me instructions on how to post it. I don't see an attachment feature, or anything of that sort. Specifically, when I load the document, the scroll buttons do nothing... most of the time. Sometimes they seem to work normally. I can use the screen-area scrolling feature, where you tap on the upper or lower part of the screen to scroll the document. After using that method for 2 or 3 screens the buttons mysteriously begin to work, but if I leave the document and come back (either by exiting the document, or by allowing the pda to time out and turning it back on again), I'm back to having to tap the screen to scroll.
Another odd thing I just noticed, although this may be an intentional feature of this version of iSilo, is that I cannot simply turn off the pda while reading a document. The pda can power off from inactivity, but if I want to intentionally turn it off I have to exit the document first or the power switch is completely non-functional.
100-200K would not be too large for the forum. You need to zip the file and post it in your reply. When you reply, scroll further down and click Manage Attachments to add a file.
The issue you describe about the power button sounds unusual. You should be able to turn off the device while reading a document.
Do you have any hacks installed?
file & hacks
The only "hack" that I have installed is a light hack which lets you reverse the backlighting on the pda for easier viewing in the dark. It's activated by a stroke on the digitizer. I don't think this would be the problem, as I've never experienced an inoperable power switch other than what I'm currently experiencing within iSilo. The power switch problem is really not a big deal, as exiting the current document allows me to power off normally. It just seemed kind of odd and I thought I'd call it to your attention in case it's related to the scrolling problem somehow.... i.e. something is causing buttons to become inactive.
Attached is a copy of a book file that I'm having the scroll button problem with. As I said before, it's very intermittent. Sometimes I can scroll, sometimes I can't. If I manually scroll by tapping the screen, the scroll buttons become active after a couple of screens until I exit the document. When I restart the document the buttons are inactive again.
This is a long shot, but try disabling layout and see if it makes a difference. To disable layout for a document, follow these steps while viewing a document:
- In the Options menu, tap Display.
- In the Display Options dialog, set the Layout field selection to Disable all layout.
- Tap OK.
Nope, that didn't do it. What's really odd is that the scroll begins working after a few pages. Oh well.
have same problem with palm IIIe / OS 3.1.1
I have the same problem (totally intermittent up/down buttons). My device is a Palm IIIe with palm OS 3.1.1 and ISILO 4.15. It does this with any downloaded ISILO text from memoware, I have tried several and it makes no difference.
I didn't notice this right away, but my palm IIIe/OS 3.1.1 does this as well. Interestingly, when the up/down buttons intermittently are working, the power button appears to work also...
