Arrow Does not appear to be possible

At this time, it does not appear that it would be possible to develop a platform version of iSilo for the Palm Pre WebOS.

Why does it not appear to be possible?

Also, please humor a newbie, but when you say a platform version of iSilo, does that mean that there may be some other version that would be supported?

    Arrow Native code

The Palm Pre as it stands now is basically a web browser and so it does not seem to be a practical possibility to have the functionality of iSilo using Web technologies. It would be slow and cumbersome.

A platform is basically an operating system. Different operating systems have different ways of doing things, such as reading files, interacting with the user through the user interface, etc. As such, an application developed for one platform does not work on a different platform. If you want the functionality of a given application on a different platform, you need to develop a version of that application specifically for that different platform.

Will you review this again once the WebOS Mojo SDK comes out? I really hope you guys are able to find a way to make it work. It is a great application which I have used with PalmOS and on windows. Other developers like Splashdata have already begun to port their apps to WebOS. Using it in classic is an option, but it's just not the same and more costly. I know you guys can do it, please.....

iSilo seriously needs to be ported to WebOS. Classic app is a stopgap solution. Can't run multiple instances. Is very buggy. User experience is poor because iSilo was designed for a stylus, not a finger.

WebOS us much more than a web page!

    Please revisit this...

    Arrow Feasibility

As soon as it becomes feasible to do so, we do intend to develop a platform version of iSilo for WebOS.

Thanks for this. In the meantime, any way you can work on fixing the issues with iSilo 5.06 "classic certified"? I am trialing this version on my pre with classic version 1.1.05 and iSilo crashes with a blue screen every time I use it. Sometimes right away, sometimes after a few clicks on links or moving through a doc. I have used these same doc files with my centro, treo 755p and treo 700p with no issues.

Arrow Copy documents to "device" memory

It appears that Classic has some stability problems when iSilo accesses documents in the "Internal" volume, which is intended to mimic the SD card of a Palm OS device.

The workaround for this is to have Classic install the files to the "device" memory by copying your document files to the /ClassicApps/Install folder when you have your Palm Pre connected in USB Drive mode. After copying your files, and restarting Classic, then Classic will move the files from that folder to the "device" memory.

Then in iSilo's document list view, make sure that you go to the "Device & Storage Cards" tab and select "[Internal Storage]" in the volume popup list along the top below the titlebar to access documents stored in the "device" memory.

I've heard from a lot of new Pre users that they're finding iSilo in Classic unusable. I'll pass on the info in the last post to see if it helps. If iSilo (or anyone else) could put together some tutorial or instructional information about this including screenshots, it would help prevent a lot of people from giving up on iSilo/Classic on their Pre's.
