Thread: Convert CHM to PDB

  1. #1

    Cool Convert CHM to PDB

    Let me present to you a small program that i have made..

    After searching through the net for a reader for CHM files, i was frustrated.
    So i have compiled a program that will convert your CHM files to iSilo PDB, so that they can be easily read with iSilo PDB reader!

    The user interface is very simple, infact you just have to point towards the source file and the destination folder!!

    Any suggestions / comments are welcome.

    2. Overview
    ===========
    Convert CHM files (Compiled Windows Help) to ISILO PDB files.

    (CHM files are nothing but a bunch of html files compiled into one CHM file!)

    3. Installation and Requirements
    ================================
    - Extract the downloaded package.
    - Run CHM2PDBConvert.exe

    The package requires:
    1. Windows XP (HH.exe)
    2. IsiloX (Html to PDB converter)
    3. CHM files to convert

    4. Usage
    ========
    Usage is pretty straightforward.
    - Run CHM2PDBConvert.exe.
    - Fill in the required feilds.
    - Hit "GO"
    - Hotsync the resultant PDB file to your handheld.

    If you want to change the settings of the Html to PDB conversion by iSiloX, make
    a backup of template.ixl and then edit template.ixl file in notepad/notepad replacement software!

    Thank you very much for this wonderfull program.
    Is there a way to create the PDB without images (for PDA to save space)?

    @ eross:
    This is possible. You can edit the settings that iSiloX uses for the conversion to iSiLo PDB. Just get yourself XML Notepad 2007 from here and edit the file template.ixl in the same folder as convert.exe!! Specifically, the ImageOptions section!

    you can check out the latest versions of the software @ my-virtual-home.blogspot.com

    Thank you ,again!
    I edited the template to exclude images - and it worked fine.
    I have also seen some books where the images are resized so the file size is about a third of the one with original images. I saw in the template file that Large images are resized to 320X480 . How much smaller will the file be if images are 240X320 ?
    I will give it a try....

    Suggestion:
    Add to the GUI the option to edit Imageoptions:
    Images - Include/exclude
    Resize Large Images - yes/no
    Maximum Width - value
    Maximum Hight - value

    @ eros:
    i plan to add an editor for the options in the program itself, and i have the code ready for it.. but till then use XML Notepad 2007 to do that..

    Another easy way to edit ixl template is by opening it with isilox - very easy GUI !
    One more possibilty:
    After I run the program once with, say, the original template. Now I wish to change the pictures properties - I use the folder Convert created on C:\ . Just edit the template and point isilox to TOC.htm.
    Saves some time...
