View Full Version : Couple of Bugs

Hi Guys,

first, i'd like to thank you for supporting UIQ! When I switched from Palm to my brand new SE p910i last week, I was very worried about whether i would be able to replace all of my venerable Palm software (not being aware that iSilo is available for UIQ). Now, with iSilo (and SplashID) loaded, everything looks much brighter. Thanks! (i'm also going to register the UIQ version right after writing this mail).

Now to the bugs (i'm using iSilo v4.25b2):

1) When i open a control panel from the system status bar at the bottom, using e.g. the Bluetooth or Speaker icon (with iSilo being the front app), the control panel will show briefly and then iSilo pushes itself back to the front. I don't have this problem with other apps.

2) when i open a document in iSilo, then switch to fullscreen display, then close the document, then open another (or the same) document, the document view is messed up: the document extends under the menu bar and the top system bar is overlayed. This situation can only be fixed by quitting iSilo - toggling fullscreen mode will not work.

3) also, in fullscreen mode the iSilo status bar is not really usable. I remember, that the Palm version would show the status bar when tapping, then you could choose one of the status bar actions. On UIQ, the status bar will remain invisible, unless you hit an action button by accident, in which case the action will be performed immediately. Not very user-friendly.

4) i'm not really sure, i can blame this one on iSilo. But since i installed iSilo, i had a couple of situation where handwriting input was mysteriously disabled when switching to another app, e.g. Jotter. I never had this before, but OTH i'm using the device only since a couple of days.

Finally, this is more like a feature request than a bug - or maybe i'm overlooking something... Being a Mac user (which is effectively not supported by SonyEricsson at all), my premier method of putting eBooks on the p910 is Bluetooth, which sends them to my Inbox. I'm still very confused, why UIQ doesn't allow my to save my Inbox items into the file system (or maybe i don't know how, yet), but apparently Inbox stuff is destined to stay there.

As it seems, other eBook apps are Inbox-aware to work around this problem, but iSilo is not. Wouldn't it be nice if iSilo could automatically scan the Inbox for valid filetypes and show them in the document list, too?

At first i thought, i might be able to just add c:\system\mail to my favorite folder list, but the favorite folder list cannot be extended!? Is there any reason, why I can't add another folder?

I hope i made any sense with what i said. Despite the above issues, i'm quite grateful, that you support my new platform.

Cheers, Oliver

This doesn't happen on a P900, so it sounds unusual. We'll need to think about why that would be happening.

This issue will need to be investigated for a subsequent update.

When the tool bar is hidden or when in full-screen mode, you can activate the tool bar temporarily by holding the stylus down in the lower left or lower right of the screen. The tool bar then appears and you can drag the stylus to the tool bar command you want to activate and then lift the stylus. To cancel the tool bar, move the stylus outside the tool bar and then lift.

Note that this behavior differs slightly from the way it works in iSilo for Palm OS. In iSilo for Palm OS, you tap, whereas in iSilo for Symbian UIQ, you need to hold the stylus down (e.g., don't lift until you've made a selection or want to cancel).

We haven't experienced anything like that.

Support for the Inbox will need to be investigated for a future version.

You can add a folder to the favorite folder list by tapping the folder icon that is to the left of the folder that you want to add. This gives you a context menu with two commands. You will want to tap the Favorite folder alias command to add the selected folder as a favorite folder.

The easiest way to locate the folder is using the "Device and Storage Cards" view, which is the rightmost tab. Select "c:" from the volume pop up list in the upper left. Next select the "system" entry in the list. You can then tap the folder icon to the left of the "Mail" entry.

Thanks for your reply!

Oh, cool! Works great!

Alright, i knew i was missing something. Thanks for the education.

But, as i feared, favorite folders don't really work to access the Inbox since the files are stored in an incomprehensible directory hierarchy. I was secretly hoping that iSilo would automatically scan all subdirectories for eBooks, but apparently it just displays a file system view on the favorite folder.

Support for the Inbox will need to be investigated for a future version.

This would be very much appreciated.
