Trying to use isilox with windows mobile 2003 smartphone. When in isilox I am setting destination to device:external memory card or just device - nothing happens, file goes nowhere. But works fine when destination points to my local hard drive.

I suspect I am doing something wrong - so any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

1. Make sure you installed iSilo to the default internal memory of your device, as the iSilo device side ActiveSync service provider DLL must be there.

2. If your device requires ActiveSync service provider DLLs to be signed, then the transfer will not work, as iSilo and its components are not signed.

Well, I tried it with isilo both in internal memory and on the card - no difference. What's isilo device side? I have registered activesync provider in iSiloX (Tools->Install Provider for activesync). Also I've got iSylo Document Install in the Activesync Options.

But here the mystery starts:

When my smartphone is not connected i can see isylo docs in the activesync options and even checmark it (i suppose this will make it synchronized)

When I connect my smartphone to pc activesync blocks isylo docs in the options (there is no more checkmark), And it does not even tries to sync isilo docs.

How can I check if there are problems with the DLLs? Are there any logs etc?

In order for iSiloX to transfer files to the device via ActiveSync, there must be what is called a service provider on the desktop computer and one on the device. The service provider implements functionality that runs during ActiveSync. When you install iSiloX, iSiloX installs the iSiloX service provider on the computer where you install iSiloX. When you install iSilo on your Pocket PC device, it also installs the iSilo device side service provider. The iSiloX service provider on the desktop communicates with the iSilo service provider on the device during ActiveSync to transfer converted documents from the desktop to the device. If it is the case that your device does not allow unsigned service providers to run, then of course the iSilo service provider can not run since it is unsigned. Whether your device allows unsigned service providers to run is probably dictated by your mobile phone company. There aren't any logs that I know of that you can check.

I have the same symptoms and have seen a post elsewhere that this is due to Orange requiring apps to be signed.

iSilo itself works though - presumably because the device side provider has to be more trusted.

I am going to try using CECopy to copy iSiloX generated files from C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\iSilo\iSiloDtS\SPV_C500\ExtIn to my phone instead - but far less elegant.

The developers would probably like a signed version as well. Unfortunately, and correct me if I get this wrong, it costs a not-insignificant amount of money to get your application/library signed. Furthermore, you must get them to resign your library after every change.

A better solution is to convince your vendor (Orange) to empower you as a user to "risk" the installation of unsigned software. Even if your vendor disables such a capability by default, knowledgeable users need not be protected from themselves.
