View Full Version : iSiloX Conduit Not Installing Docs On Memory Stick

Can I install items onto the external card (memory stick) of my Clie NX70 using iSiloX with the latest version of Missing Sync running in OS X?

I'm trying to send documents to a specific directory on the memory stick, and I'm sure I've got the path and settings right, but nothing is transferred when I sync.

iSilo is installed in the built-in memory of my handheld, and document and path descriptions are being generated in the right places on my Mac. What could be going wrong, and how do I fix it?

Thanks for any advice...

Judging by the lack of response, I'm guessing that the sync failures described in my previous post are not a common occurrence. I've continued to nibble at the problem, and the best workaround that I can come up with is to set a destination for exported files in the /Files to Install/Memory Stick/ directory in my user folder. Not ideal, really.

The delay may be because of Thanksgiving (at least with users in the US...)
Syncing to the memory card should work, I think. Are you using iSiloX to convert and install files? In the Document Properties -> Destination you may have to choose a User & Destination (at least that is how it works on a PC). Using a File Manager (Like FileZ) does the Palm\Programs\iSilo exist?
Any other ideas from other Mac & Clie users?

My tools: OS X 10.3.6 on iMac G5 with iSiloX 4.2, Palm Desktop 4.2.1, Hotsync Manager 3.2. I have two SD cards on an AlphaSmart Dana (http://www3.alphasmart.com/products/dana.html) with Palm Applications 4.0 (as modified by AlphaSmart for the wide screen), Hotsync Manager 4.0, and iSilo 4.2.

I see that this knowledge base article (http://www.isilox.com/support/kb/kb100101.htm) says I need Hotsync 4.0 for the Mac -- where do I find that?

The first of the two cards is a 64M SD named sixtyfour; I've created a destination path in iSiloX of
sixtyfour/Palm/Programs/iSilo
and set this as the default destination for all my conversions.

After the Mac conversion, the *pdb files show up in
~/Documents/Palm/Users/Dana/iSilol
(that last character is lowercase L) folder, plus two more files, named "iSilo" and "iSilo.path".

If I sync at this point, the files get installed at
sixtyfour/Palm/Launcher
and the sync log reports errors on the iSilo and iSilo.path files (see below for details).
I've set this destination as one of my Favorite folders, so iSilo is still usable. If I'm feeling tidy, I use FileZ to move them to the iSilo folder where I told iSiloX to put them.

A workaround to get my files to arrive in the desired folder:
On the Mac I move all the converted *pdb files to the SD card's folder at ~/Documents/Palm/Users/Dana/Files to Install/sixtyfour then the *.pdb files are installed in Dana's sixtyfour/Palm/Programs/iSilo folder.

Still get the same error messages for the iSilo and iSilo.path files, to wit:
Loading “Install Conduit”
Conduit “Install” version 3.0.0
Sync type is Install/Restore
Failed to install iSilo to the SecureDigital (SD) Card
- No application on your handheld to open these files. If you have recently installed such an application, please run that application and then perform a HotSync operation.
Failed to install iSilo.path to the SecureDigital (SD) Card
- No application on your handheld to open these files. If you have recently installed such an application, please run that application and then perform a HotSync operation.
OK Install with 2 message(s)

You have: sixtyfour/Palm/Programs/iSilo

Here is what you need to do:

Precede the volume name with an initial slash. An initial two consecutive slashes denotes installation to the first volume with enough free space.
Add a trailing slash to indicate that iSilo is a folder name and not the file name to which to write the file.
The iSiloX manual gives several example paths that you may want to look at to understand this better.

So in summary, the path you want for your specific scenario is: /sixtyfour/Palm/Programs/iSilo/

Thanks for the details. (I've been spoiled by GUIs for more than a decade).

I'm using iSiloX on a Mac and when I select "External Memory Card" as my destination, it doesn't work!

It does what this poster said, which is, it creates an iSilol folder in my Users folder and puts the translated document there. My iSilo is resident in memory on my Palms, not on the cards.

Any ideas on this one, other than specifying a path?

IIRC, it worked fine with earlier versions of iSiloX.
