I am a very happy isilo 4.01 user on a garmin ique 3600. I want to know if after installing 4.15 whether or not I can go back to my 4.01 version (from a backup using backupman) if I decide that 4.15 is not for me.

It seems there is a substantial difference in how the doc list is organized in 4.15 and I was wondering if installing and launching 4.15 will make irreversible changes to my documents. Would I be able to just replace the isilo app with the 4.01 version and be back to the prior version.

On the other hand, does the new doc list have an option to hide all the new features (they sound somewhat complicated) so one could continue using the old format. I have put a lot of time and energy into organizing my docs into a set of catagories and don't want to lose this. But 4.15 has other benefits and fixes I would like to have.

thanks

Yes, you can go back to an old version. If you didn't have a backup copy available, you can still download it (http://www.isilo.com/download/dl/iSilo401.zip).

When you install the new version, iSilo will convert the old database to the new database format. It asks you whether or not you want to delete the old database; say no to this one. Obviously, changes made while using the new version will not propogate back to the old database should you decide to switch back.

In the worst case (iSilo somehow removes the old database), your backup software should still retain a copy of the old database, as well.

On the other hand, does the new doc list have an option to hide all the new features (they sound somewhat complicated) so one could continue using the old format.

No, the new document list is now the only document list. I find the new way to be more powerful while remaining simple, but it is different from the standard Palm document lists.

I have put a lot of time and energy into organizing my docs into a set of catagories and don't want to lose this.

As I mentioned, the new version of iSilo should convert your current categories to the new format without losing the old database.

Thanks for the info.

I did as you said. I installed the new version, said no to delete old, and then I can see there are 2 database files,

_iSiloSettingsDb_

and

_iSiloDocSettingsDB_

The reason I checked was that the conversion did not catorgorize my docs correctly. I then replaced the isilo app with the backup and all is well. But I was wondering which db to remove.

Any ideas why the conversion messed up (not totally, but substantially).
All my docs are on my SD card.

The old database (4.01) is named _iSiloSettingsDB_. The new database (4.15) is named _iSiloDocSettingsDB_.

The category conversion should have worked without problems. There may be other factors at work with your particular setup. We'd need to reproduce the problem here to be able to determine what the reason was.

I've restored 4.01, deleted the 4.15 database and re-installed 4.15 with the problem repeating.

I have the 2 databases in my Backup folder on the pc and could send them in if this would help. Can you determine what the problem is if you had just these 2 files?

I have a catgory called Zzztrash which I created since it sorts as the last catagory. During the conversion, many other docs from other catagories ended up in this last catagory.

Just the databases would not be sufficient. You would need to send all the documents you have internally as well as any located on the memory card. If you would like to do this to help us reproduce the problem, please zip all the files together and send them to http://www.iSilo.com/img/email.jpg. If you do, please also include a listing of which files were from where (e.g., fileA was stored internally, fileB was stored in /Programs/Palm/iSilo, fileC was stored in /Programs/Launcher, etc.). However, if the size of the zip file is greater than seven megabytes, it may not make it through, so you may have to send more than one zip.

Not sure if this would have anything to do with the issue, but do any of your documents specify default categories?
