View Full Version : Can't convert single link

Recently my local city newspaper has introduced a free member login thing (heaven knows why!), so you have to sign in to access certain pages on their site. It's been going for a few months with no dramas. But suddenly in the past week I'm having trouble getting a couple of links on the handheld version, which I have scripted to auto convert with isilox. After hotsync, I get the entire document for that day's handheld version of the paper as normal - except that the last two links (which happen to be my most read sections!) give me the member login window. What's weird is that if I go to the handheld version of the paper online through my web browser (whether logged in as a member or not), I can click on those links and go straight to the page I want!

I've tried putting my member login name and p/word in the access panel in iSiloX, but that didn't appear to make a difference.

Any idea what's happening here? Can I fix it?

(In case it's relevant, I'm running MacOSX 10.3.5)

My first thought? You need to set up cookies in iSiloX (http://isilox.com/support/manual/iSiloXMac/ReferenceManual/DocumentProperties/Cookies.htm). The location-identifying cookies are probably present regardless of your login status.

If you can provide a link to the web site, then perhaps we can offer additional assistance.

Hey! It's all ball bearings (err, cookies) today.

In all seriousness, though...

Perhaps the iSilo administrator would care to comment on this: does iSilo apply the access information to any page that requests it, or only the home page?

Thanks, Spike :)

Tried enabling cookies. Cookie (which seems to be to do with "signon") now loaded. But no change to problem.

Front page: www.theage.com.au / Handheld front page: www.theage.com.au/handheld (All links work perfectly when read on my Palm Zire 71, except the bottom one ("Letters: ...") - which is the one I most want.)

I believe it is a bug in iSiloX.

For the developers:

Both SendCookies and ReceiveCookies are set to "yes".
The server sends a redirect with a "set-cookie" header.
The new request (from the redirect) does not include the appropriate "Cookie" entry, and the request "fails".

For reference, the response from the server includes:

set-cookie: f2User=C4E7F90B39024BE32066D6D45856DC7562D40135608 E8D940FB0B76614B671796D8F61FC6E9DEF438C858AF5D64BB 90419CF3ED3478FB4B05FF22F1E5109894D227E6119CB92A04 A98E2F587165C927CD2E77737F88A5880055F5FFA69BAB3D27 D244E114C3DE15F4C3D9C278F357241; path=/; domain=.theage.com.au

Thanks for identifying that presumed bug. Amazingly, it even makes sense to a non-geek like me.

a. Can someone higher up the food chain confirm the diagnosis?
b. What happens now?

The diagnosis was correct and there is a bug in iSiloX with respect to sending cookies in this case. The issue will be fixed for the next update to the current 4.15 beta, expected to be available next week.

Fantastic! Thanks heaps for that - and very prompt too :) (With some software fixes I could expect to wait weeks or months!)

One final question just to clarify: I should have cookies enabled for both send and receive for that particular site - yes?

Yes, enable both send and receive of cookies.

Hi,

Back again. Just downloaded and installed latest beta. Still same problem with that last link. Have i missed something?

Actually, yes, there is one more thing you need to do and that is add the cookie that indicates that you are a registered user at the site. Go to your browser's cookie list and look for a cookie named f2RUser with a domain of signon.f2.com.au and copy the value of the cookie. You'll need to consult your specific browser's documentation for details on how you can access it's stored cookies.

In iSiloX, go the Cookies properties and add the cookie with the fields filled in like in the attached screenshot. Specifically, you should fill in these fields:

Name: f2RUser
Value: the value for the cookie from your browser
Expires: set the year for 2005 or later
Path: /
Domain: signon.f2.com.au
Leave all other fields blank.

In addition, you should also already have a cookie named f2Signon in the cookie list in iSiloX for your conversion entry. If not, you will need to get that from your browser too and add it.

Hi again, and thanks again.

For some reason I didn't get an e-mail telling me you had replied this time, so I only just found your answer a few hours ago. Anyway, it's all fixed now :D Mind you I had to consult another forum to get the goods on how to copy the value for the cookie. It wasn't straightforward - especially for a non-geek like me. Anyhow got there in the end. Thanks again for everything.
