I just down loaded iSilo. I have .pdb files on my Sony Clie that I can't seem to find with iSilo. The manual says that I should have a listing under Tools for "Favorite Folder Alias" to specify a folder, but this option is not there. The only folder listing under Options is "Edit Favorit Folders" and I can not add a folder from there.

Do I need to transfer the files to the /Palm/Programs/iSilo folder? If so, how do I tell the Install program where to put the files?

Any Help would be apprecitated!

I am going to assume you have the latest (iSilo for Palm OS 4.10) version...

By default, iSilo checks the "/Palm/Programs/iSilo" and "/Palm/Launcher" directories (as well as any subdirectories therein). In other words, these two directories are the default "Favorites".

From the document list view, you can manually locate files using the "Device & Storage Cards" tab (rightmost). It is my understanding that once you open a file using this technique, the opened document will show up in the other lists.

If you wish to add a new Favorite Folder, then tap the icon next to the directory name and select "Favorite Folder Alias" from within the "Device & Storage Cards" tab.

And yes, the online manual (http://isilo.com/support/manual/iSilo/iSiloManual.htm) is out of date.

The Favorite Folder Alias command is in the menu that you get when you tap the folder icon that is to the left of a folder's name in the listing or when you hold the stylus down on the name for at least a second. The Tools menu does not have a Favorite Folder Alias command.

You do not need to transfer your files to /Palm/Programs/iSilo if you are using version 4.05 or later. You can use the Device & Storage Cards view to navigate to any folder to open a document. If there is a particular folder where you often store your documents, it is probably helpful to create a Favorite Folder Alias for that folder so that you can use the Favorite Folders view to quickly jump to that folder.

By default, when you install iSilo 4.05 or later for the first time, iSilo adds two favorite folder aliases. The first, named iSilo, is set to /Palm/Programs/iSilo and the second, named Launcher, is set to /Palm/Launcher.

Regarding what Voltage Spike said about a file that is opened in the Device & Storage Card's view appearing in the other lists, the only lists it would appear in would be the Recently Opened list and the Updated list, and the latter only if the file is subsequently updated. It would only appear in the Categorized view under [Uncategorized] if it was in one of the favorite folders or in the categories to which it has been categorized into. It would appear in the Favorite Folders view if the file was in one of your favorite folders.

The manual posted on the website has just been updated to the latest version.

OK maybe I'm not seeing it. When I go to "Device and Storage Cards" the documents are not there. But I know they are on my Clie as I can access them from another source. If I click on the icon of the documents that are there, I can't see any way to access/create a favorites alias. The only menu items that are listed are "Open, Catagories, Delete, Rename, Beam, Information, Copy and Send"
I am still in the trial mode and have not registered my iSilo copy. Do I need to do this to access the other documents and get the favorites alias?
Also, when I click on the "Favorite Folders" icon at the bottom of the screen I don't get the two folders you mention. If I go to Tools/Edite Favorite Folders then they are there.

You need to go up one folder level so that you can see the folder in the listing. The folder name will have a folder icon. Files have a file icon. When you tap a file icon, you get the file menu items that you listed. When you tap a folder icon, you get the folder menu items, one of which is "Favorite Folder Alias". You do not have to have iSilo registered to get this functionality.

In the Favorite Folders view, you can see the list of favorite folders by accessing the volume/folder popup list. This popup list is right below the title bar. It has the downward arrowhead to indicate that it is a popup list and the label should initially be iSilo, indicating that the current favorite folder is the one named iSilo.

If the above still does not make sense, please holler some more.

First the volume/folder Lable in the Favorite Folders view is labeld "[Internal Storage]". In trying to figure this out yesterday I inadverently deleted the /Palm/Launcher from the favorite folders. Anyway, when I tap on the volume/folder I don't get a drop down list. The Icon changes and the heading [Internal Storage] is highlighted, but nothing else. Taping the title or icon again and it goes back to the unhighlighted view.

Maybe some more information on the documents I am trying to access. I downloaded EZ Reader from the LDS.org web site along with the Bible and other scripture documents. These documents are .pdb files. EZ Reader can access these documents, but I would like to get them through iSilo also, since it seems to be a better program.

Thanks for helping me.

If the volume/folder popup shows [Internal Storage], then that would mean you are in the Device & Storage Cards view. See the first attached screenshot. The fact that when you tap the popup and only see [Internal Storage] and nothing else means that you do not have any storage cards.

The second attached screenshot shows the Favorite Folders view.

Given all that has been said and given the additional information you just provided about trying to read EZ reader documents, the following points should summarize the situation:

Either your device does not support storage cards or you do not have any inserted. This would explain why you have not been able to see the folder icon and hence have not been able to access the folder menu with the "Favorite Folder Alias" command. Only storage cards can have folders (i.e., directories). The internal storage of your device does not have folders (i.e., it is a flat organization).
You have EZ reader documents stored in the internal storage memory of your device and want to use iSilo to read them. However, EZ reader has its own proprietary document format, so such documents would not be readable in iSilo.
In summary, the EZ reader documents stored in the internal storage memory of your device will not appear in iSilo's listing because iSilo can not read them anyway.
