I've seen this mentioned in other threads, but I think it deserves its own thread.

The Categories screen takes a long time to find all the documents in a given category. This is especially annoying when going back and forth between two different categories. Would it be possible to just check once then keep a list somewhere of all the documents in a given category and let the user control when to update the list (maybe options for always, after hotsync, or manual)?

Or is the whole point here that you're trying to move iSilo away from organizing documents with categories and toward organizing documents into folders?

In this reply, I will assume that you are talking specifically about "iSilo for Palm OS".

The point is not to move away from categories to using folders. If it were, the categories support would not have been enhanced in the way it has.

Assuming you are using version 4.1, currently in beta, but expected to be released soon, one of the ways you can speed up the category listing is by doing the following two things:

1. In the document list view, go to the Options menu and tap Document List. In the Document List Options dialog, set the Fields option to Name (e.g., do not display the date or size).
2. In the document list view, go to the Options menu and tap Document Types. In the Document Type Options dialog, uncheck Use document type filtering.

By doing the above, iSilo will then not need to open each listed file to get its date/time and document type. Depending on the device, opening a file on a storage card can take a noticeable amount of time.

I tried that, and it may have sped it up a little bit, but it's still slow enough to be really annoying. Especially since I'm so used to iSilo 3.x being able to browse the different categories instantly (with the only wait being when the lists get sychronized). It basically makes the categories method of organizing documents unusable for me. If I were to upgrade to iSilo 4.x I'd have to go with the folders method of organizing all my documents unless this were fixed.

Might be worth it. I really like the document view otherwise. I love being able to hold-tap a file and instantly do any function (delete, rename, etc.).

Any reason you can't use the old method? (I assume iSilo just kept a list of all the files and their categories that wasn't updated unless you synchronized). It seems ridiculous that iSilo has to open all the files to re-display information it just showed me 5 seconds ago.
