I am reasearching applications to deploy a site that i have maintained for the last few years onto Palms. This site is distributed by CD every few months to locations all over the country and are used by the salespeople to view information. There has been a request to make a handheld version of the site, however i would like to stick to the same format, distributed on a disc, then copied to a palm.
It's a fairly large site, (content-wise, not graphic-wise) and i was wondering if this is possible, and if iSilo is the right product to do this.
anyone have any thoughts ?

thanks,
Sarah Fay

It really depends on the site...

iSilo is very good at converting static content into a handheld format. If your web site is static (e.g., users navigate using an index), then iSilo is probably a very good candidate for a handheld conversion. Note that due to the large size of the site, you will probably require that handheld users have expansion memory (although this will be true of any format). Also note that iSilo has a limit of around 10000 pages per document.

If your web site is dynamic (e.g., users navigate using a search engine), then iSilo will not be able to help you. It does not support "advanced" features such as Java (although it does support minimal Javascript) or Macromedia Flash.

I hope this helps. Good luck! :)

Just to clarify on a couple of the technical points Voltage Spike brought up, the limit on the number of pages is actually 65,535 and the JavaScript support is for all practical purposes non-existent. The only JavaScript support is a simple pattern match on JavaScript code used for hyperlinking via menus.

Note also that iSilo can not read HTML directly. You would need to convert the site into an iSilo document and store the resulting document file on the CD so that all your users would need to do would be to copy that single file to their Palm to view within iSilo.
