View Full Version : REQ for 4.05/Palm: Ability to return to document list like in 4.01

In 4.05 simple document list and its usability has been sacrificed in the name of Windows-like (grrrrr) interface. There is a big unused space at the top of the display, right to the "iSilo" title. PalmOS is famous of it's display space saving and ergonomic usage, now iSilo 4.05 is (IMHO) breaking these time-verified constraints/guidelines. I would live happily with the "old" document list; all I use from the new Views is just "Categorized". All the tabs are just taking up my valuable display space.

In 4.01 you can view 11 documents, while in 4.05 it's only 10 (using the same font). What a shame.

I understand there are users who will appreciate the new document list, but it would be great to have a preference switch to make the document list simpler, or at least disable just the "Views tabs" (at the bottom of the display). While using the new "tap&hold" feature, which obsoletes the "action drop-down list" from 4.01, there would be even more space for document list than in 4.01.

Also, there *must* be a way to list "Unfiled" category in the "Categorized" view, which is missing now.

Thank you.

While certainly not perfect, I prefer the new interface. It has more features and more room to grow, whereas the old interface had pretty much run its course.

Well, that's just, like, my opinion, man. :D

I love the new IF - Took a bit of re-adjusting but now I can't go back!

I have lots of docs, and being able to sort them by bulk into my own Folders on VFS instead of having to put them all in one dir. and sort them into catagories one by one (ugh!) so a godsend!

I agreed with the Unfiled idea before, but now that it's in I wish I could disable it since it slows the file-browser down so much! :)

The slight waste of space makes the browser feel a bit less clastrophobic on my TH55, but on my friend's T665 it does feel a bit cramped compared to the old one.

Not sure I'd want both the old and new browser in the same exe (iSilo is getting a bit chubby now... gonna break the half-megabyte barrier soon! :( ), but I'm not sure how I'd go about tweaking the UI for all different tastes either :)

I suppose they could try putting the tabs at the top, just to the right of the "iSilo" menu thingy, and extending the browser screen down. That'd give you 2-3 more lines to play with... Might look a bit ugly 'tho...

I agree with all those who voted for the OLD simple interfase.

iSilo must have:
* a way to switch to a simple list view
* a way to disable automatic list refresh (I have a lot of documents in iSilo, and on my TT this NEW list needs much more time to be displayed than in previous version)
* a user selectable way to choose between simple and multiple categorized system (is this the reason of the continuos refresh of the list?)
* a way to let define the action of the buttons (specially on the 5-way navigator) in the LIST view. Now I cannot advance a screen forward or backward.. I just can go one by one. I know that I can type the first letter of the file and iSilo jumps to that part on the list, but I use my TT with the slide closed most of the time. Also, when you type the first letter of a file, the first file with that letter shows as the LAST file on the list, not the FIRST one. If the list shows as the FIRST, I can save a lot of time pressing the DOWN button to find the file I need...

Hope Darren read this, and consider to include this OLD features on the NEW program.

All comments are noted. Nevertheless, please see this new post: iSilo for Palm OS document list speed tips.

I like the simple interface better. The least desirable thing about the new list is that it keeps "refreshing" all the time, and that it takes up too much space. It would be nice to save the document list in a cache, as in the previous version. In fact it seemed like a feature, being able to view a list of documents, even if they're on a different card.

Maybe if there were an option to choose which tabs to display (tree only, categories only)..

I actually *returned* to the older version because of this.

Just my 2 cents.
