View Full Version : Get old version of iSilo?

Hi!
I've just been trying out 4.05; looks nice, but in the first half hour of use I've discovered that it's still too buggy for everyday use.
I'd like to revert to 4.01 (with which I had no problems at all) until the newest one is more usable. Is it still available for download somewhere? I can only find 4.05 and 3.35.
(I very foolishly neglected to keep a copy of the 4.01 installer.)
Thanks!

Ah, now I realise that the source of my problems is that the behavior of iSilo has changed.
I keep a button assigned to iSilo. In 4.01, hitting that button opened the running iSilo application (or started a new one, if there wasn't already one running).
But in 4.05, the button always starts a new instance of the application.
So in 4.01, I could be reading an iSilo file, switch to another app, then hit the iSilo button to carry on reading my document. But now that just opens a new file list. If I click on the document I was reading, it opens at the home page, not the point I was reading.
So to get back where I was, I have to open the list of running tasks and select the iSilo application.
Not ideal, so I'd still like to revert to 4.01.
Thanks.

Sorted now. I managed to get old copies off yesterday's backup, so I'm happily using 4.01 again.
Cheers!

Thanks for reporting the issue with the multiple instances of iSilo starting, though it would have been nice if you could have discovered this issue while version 4.05 was still in beta. The issue will be fixed in the next update then.

Well, that wasn't quite the gracious reply I would've expected.
Bugs happen, I accept that; but I don't expect a business to get snotty because its customer has found a problem with a product at an inconvenient time.
This certainly dampens my enthusiasm for an application that I've been happily using and recommending for years.

I didn't interpret their response in that way at all. In my opinion, they weren't blaming you for their own bug. They were simply lamenting out loud (which they probably shouldn't have been doing) the fact that a major bug was discovered in their product less than 24 hours after its release.
If you check the posting history on the iSilo user, you will see that they are generally very professional and concise.
Oh, well. Such are the limitations of a written medium.

I agree that they weren't blaming me for the bug. What annoyed me was the tone of the comment "though it would have been nice if you could have discovered this issue while version 4.05 was still in beta".
They could've said "though I wish we'd caught this in beta". It would've implied the same lament, without being snotty.
iSilo is a great application; it gets more use than any other app on my iPAQ. So I'm not going to let this remark put me off. I'll just be a bit curmudgeonly for a while. :p

I apologize if the remark came out to sound "snotty". That was not the intent at all. Note that the reply starts with a "thanks" at the beginning. The second part of the message was just an exclamation of "Murphy's law" and not blaming you for the problem at all. Please accept my apology.

Accepted! No hard feelings, and I'm sorry if I over-reacted.
As Voltage Spike said, "such are the limitations of a written medium".
4.05 looks like a great release, and I'm really looking forward to getting the fixed version.

Looks like my attempt to reinstall 4.01 from the backup wasn't as successful as I'd thought. ActiveSync no longer copies the files generated with iSiloX.
(I've got iSiloDvS.dll in Program Files/iSilo/iSilo on the iPAQ, but presumably it needs to be registered somehow. I'm not sure if there's a PocketPC equivalent of regsvr32.)
So I'd like to renew my request for a copy of the old 4.01 please!
(I think it'd be a good idea anyway when releasing a new version to have the old one still available in case of unforseen problems.)

OK, fixed it now. I realised (eventually) that somehow iSilo had been deselected in the list of files to sync.
All working again!

Although the old version has not been linked directly from the web site, a little bit of hand-waving reveals that it is not gone.
For example, the current iSilo for Pocket PC links to:
http://www.isilo.com/download/dl/iSilo405PPCSetup.exe
However, the old version is still available at:
http://www.isilo.com/download/dl/iSilo401PPCSetup.exe

Splendid bit of deduction, Voltage Spike!
Thankyouverymuch. :D
