I used N760 before (isilo 4.01)
the image inside the documents shows slowly. I thought it is due to the slow processor

however, I installed isilo 4.05rc1 on the TH55
when I open document with images, the speed of showing images is still slow (for images about 300x300 , I think around 5 seconds). The images show "row by row".

Is that normal ??? or any reasons cause the problem ?
I tried copy the file into palm's memory but doesn't help

I don't think that's hardware's problem as the speed is wonderful to play games ! : )

Thank you

Are you using lossy image compression? This feature is much slower than the alternatives.

To disable lossy compression, select "None" from the "Lossy Compression" drop-down list under "Document Properties/Images/Compression".

i see ........ thanks

but disabling the lossy compression would create a giant file ...... : ( as there are many images in the newspaper I convert

any way to make it smaller but fast when read ?
because I saw my friend using ppc has no problem even for compressed image

Thank you

The Pocket PC platform may be faster at viewing lossily-compressed images because, in general, the CPU is much faster. I love my TH55, but I have no illusions about its speed. :)

I find that the lossless image compression provided by iSilo is actually quite good. Have you tried converting a document in this manner for comparison? (Note that you must not uncheck the the "Compress Box", as discussed here.)

Other possible options:

Resize the images to be smaller
Use a third-party program to download the program first, but eliminate unnecessary images (e.g., advertisements)
Check if the newspaper provides a handheld version (mobileread.com may have it listed)
HotSync directly to external memory

Good luck.

my friend's ppc is 266mhz : (
th55 should be much more powerful , heehee
maybe palm os is weaker in handling this ?

actually the website to convert is already customized by my php , no any unnecessary images, I think the only way is to reduce the size ......

Thanks for your help

btw, good "compression" question ! it's useful

after some tests on different settings
I found the effect "Dither" with 8bit color depth is not bad ! :)

Although it is difficult to compare different processor architectures (Sony employs its its in-house HandHeld Engine processor), your TH55 is running at 123 MHz.

PS: I should smack myself for not including the option of lowering the color depth in my list

just curious why the compressed image showing speed in isilo of th55 is similar to n760

The emulation speed of 68K code on the TH55 is probably similar to the native execution speed of 68K code on the N760.

Support for improved display speed of lossy compressed images on Palm OS 5 devices with ARM processors is planned for a future update.
