View Full Version : external document linking stopped working

Hi
We have a setup where we convert a website to isilo format.
This has worked flawlessly for a couple of years - but suddenly the document linking doesn't work to one specifik document.
The rip produces 4 documents, where there are internal linking within 3 of the documents. One of these suddenly stopped working - so when linking from one of the other documents, isilo "stops" at the front page of the document.

Is there a way I can debug this myself ?
I seem to remember that there is a max to the number of tables an isilo document can contain - is this correct, and can I check the total number of tables in an isilo document ?

Regards
Nick

If the external linking goes to the top of the document, then iSilo was not able to find the target link in the document. There is really no easy way to determine specifically what is wrong.

Yes, there is a maximum number of tables you can have. There is no way to get a count of the number of tables.

How large are the resulting individual .pdb files in terms of megabytes?

Hi
The pdb files are 7.5mb and 3.2mb. The odd thing is that a few of the links from the 7.5mb document to the 3.2mb document actually works.

I've tried to enable logging when doing the conversion, but isilox doesn't report any errors.
Is there a way I can mail you the pdb files + ixl file + link to site?

Regards
Nick

Yes, you can email the files to http://www.iSilo.com/img/email.jpg.

It appears that the problem has to do with case-sensitivity. Uppercase and lowercase are considered different.

From the website you provided for the grupper document, the links to the individual pages use uppercase "ID" in the URLs of the links, whereas in the pręparater docment, the links to the grupper document pages use lowercase "id" in the URLs of the links.

So what you need to do is ensure that you use either all uppercase throughout for "ID" or use all lowercase throughout for "id".

super - thanks for the help. Will change the website tomorrow and give it a go.

I tried the suggestion - changed the website to only use small chars "id=".

This hasn't corrected the problem (and as I wrote, some of the links worked before - even with caps "ID=").

Do you have any other suggestions?
If needed, I can mail the newly generated isilo files.

TIA
Nick

Thanks for sending the new files. Taking another look, the problem appears to be that the target names used by the two files are different in yet another way. From the pręparater document, for the example you gave in the email, the link to the grupper document page uses "grupper_info.aspx?id=317042", but in the grupper document, the target is named "grupper_info.aspx?id=317042&an=S01JA". In the grupper target, you have the additional parameter "&an=S01JA".

We did find something. Please re-read the previous reply for the description of what we found.

yep sorry - replied before I saw your initial reply.

It's correct that the links are not totally alike - but it strikes me as odd, that the function then works sometimes - as I wrote in the initial mail.
In there cases the diffence in links are the same as the ones where it doesn't work.

Problem solved
We changed the website to generate the same links from one group to the other - which solved the problem. Still a mystery why linking worked sporadically..

Thanks for the help
Nick
