View Full Version : slight problem converting a Word document

Hi,
I am trying to convert a Word document to iSilo & I am getting a weird result. On this page, there are a few places where the formatting of the text is different than the rest, specifically, bold text and a link to another document. They are in the middle of paragraphs of text. When it converts to iSilo, some of these places where the formatting changes are 'moved' to begin new paragraphs, instead of remaining in the paragraphs they are part of, and I don't know if its something I'm doing or something iSilo is doing.

I have noticed that not every differently-formatted text in this document has the problem. In at least one case (the first "see page 7" link), it is at the beginning of a new sentence (should that make a difference? The second "see page 7" link doesnt have a problem). On the other hand, the second "EARLY" (in bold) is not at the beginning of a sentence, but gets moved to begin one, whereas the first "EARLY" and the third "EARLY" seem to work just fine, no movement.

I realize the hang-up may be in the html code, which I am not very good at, so if you see the error there, can you suggest a way I could correct it?

If it means anything, I am using the iSilo 4.01 that is NOT the beta version on a Palm Tungsten C. The Word document was created in Word 2000 but has since been saved in Word XP Professional.

I have attached the Word doc here; I tried to attach the html file, but the attachment manager didn't seem to like that...

Thanks in advance for any help or advice,
Rebecca @ Taubman

I am using iSiloX 4.05b3, iSilo for Palm OS 4.05b3, and Microsoft Word 2002. I get the same results: text with formatting (in my case, it is bold) at the beginning of a wrapped line ruins the indentation of that line.

I seem to recall seeing similar behavior in the 3.x series, but it hasn't come up for me lately because my documents haven't had margins.

iSilo doesn't deal too well with hanging indents where a line break begins with new formatting information for a run of text.

In the case of your document, you should use numbered lists instead of the hanging indents and it should solve your problem. In Word, you can create a numbered list by using the toolbar button that has the icon that has 1 - , 2 -, 3 -. Do a search in Word's help for "numbered lists".
