View Full Version : Buttons & Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC

I've recently changed to an O2 XDA Exec (= HTC Universal) running Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC. I have the following three comments/queries:

(i) Some of the buttons can be assigned to iSilo actions, but most do not give the desired result.
One button (normally assigned to camera) does the iSilo operation but then opens the program to which the button has been assigned in Windows. Another button, when pressed-and-held, carries out both the press-and-hold assignment, and the simple press assignment.

As a result, very few buttons can actually be used to do useful iSilo functions. (Or am I missing something...?)

(ii) The device has a whole hardware keyboard: is there any way some of those keys can be assigned to iSilo actions?

(iii) In Windows Mobile 5, many programs have two menu labels in the tool bar at the bottom of the screen which are activated using two special keys or buttons. It would be very useful if the iSilo menus could also be activated via those keys - or on the XDA Exec using other keys on the keyboard - without having to resort to using the stylus to open those menus. Once a menu is open, items can be selected by pressing on the keyboard the character underlined in that item, but the menu itself cannot be selected in a similar way. Any plans to implement this?

Many thanks from satisfied user - wanting to improve things further!

Bernard

Hasn't anyone got anything to say about this button question? - surely someone has experience in this area...

The way buttons work is very device specific and many times it is not possible for iSilo to reassign a button solely to itself.

iSilo does not currently have support for assigning keyboard keys to actions.

Support for the softkey menu layout is under consideration for the future.

Many thanks - I look forward to the softkeys route opening up: that would be a great plus for this excellent tool (assuming microsoft are sticking with softkeys!).
