New UIQ3 phones, what about iSilo????

SonyEricsson have 3 upcoming UIQ3-phones: P1, M610 and W960, and already has P990, W950 and M600 running with UIQ3.

The P1 is oriented heavily towards business users, and as a medical doctor I use iSilo on a daily basis and would love to continue using S//E phones....

When the market apparently is so big for an UIQ3 version of iSilo, why is it that no version has been made for UIQ3 ???? :confused:

You can buy iSilo for almost ANY format of smartphone in the world (including the obsolete UIQ2.1 ) but millions of UIQ3 users are being forced to use other platforms as a result of this...... :mad:

Any good/valid explanations for this ????

There is currently no platform version of iSilo that will run on the Sony Ericsson P1, which uses Symbian UIQ 3, but a platform version of iSilo for Symbian UIQ 3 is under development and may enter the beta test stage next month.

The market for iSilo did not materialize for UIQ 2 nor Symbian Series 60, and as a result the investment in research and development for platform versions of iSilo for Symbian UIQ and Symbian Series 60 resulted in a large loss. Whether the lack of customer interest in iSilo for those platforms as indicated by license purchases is a result of an almost non-existent market or a result of high piracy rates is debatable. But the net result was that development of platform versions of iSilo for UIQ3 and Symbian S60 3rd Edition were thus placed at a lower priority due to the losses incurred. However, as indicated by the release earlier this year of a platform version for Symbian S60 3rd Edition and the upcoming beta for Symbian UIQ 3, we are going to give it another shot.

Hi! I loved iSilo ever since my Palm days and now I am very happy that you have the UIQ3 version.

I have a few questions:
1. Can I already purchase this beta version even before it goes to non-beta mode? If so, will there be a discount considering it is beta?
2. If I can pay, how? I can't find it yet in the online store.

Yes, you can purchase a license to use with the beta. For iSilo for Symbian UIQ 3, you would purchase the license for iSilo for Symbian UIQ. So whether you are using a device running Symbian UIQ 2.x or Symbian UIQ 3.x, you would purchase the same license.

If you hold a license for iSilo 4.x for Symbian UIQ, then there is a pre-release promotional upgrade price. If not, but you hold a license for a different platform version of iSilo, you can get a discount as well. To get this latter discount, you would need to go to the iSilo online store, click on "Single User Licensing" at the top and then on the Single User Licensing page, click "Single User License Additions".

Thank you for the reply, I do have one more question though. It is said in your site that BETA does not guarantee the application to go into production. If that is the case, what happens to my license if the UIQ3 version never goes into production?

Is this the right palce to make some remarks about isilo for UIQ3?
1. I can't find an option to zoom which would be great picturesand tables [i click at some documents at a table and get the message"the hyperlink does not resolve to any location in this document"..
2. Is therean otion to align tezt so that no horizontal bar to appear? I have some documents that can not be easily read due to the horizontal bar that you have to move in order to read each line of the document.
3. sometimes when i search the document becomes black and then the find window reamains eventhough it should have been closed like a remnant on the screen which dissapears when i move the screen a little by the vertical line.

You can disable table layout through Menu/Edit/Options/Content/Disable table layout and see if that is better. Or when performing conversions, try the options in Properties/Tables/Process table formatting, such as "Include only tables reachable up to 1 levels from the innermost tables", "Unfold full-page top-level tables", and "Ignore pixel width specifications". If you simply do not like have a scroll bar on the screen even if the content is wider than the screen, you can turn off the scroll bars by going to Menu/EditOptions/Interface/Scroll bar/None.
