After a long long time coming we finally see a final release of a s60 3rd edition release (v4.33). I've been carrying around my iPaq and my nokia for ages now and thought I'd be able to ditch the iPaq. I only really use it now for iSilo.
I thought I'd download it tho' and run it to see how it looked on the screen of an N73 before plumping for a purchase. And all I see is SQUARES!
I thought it might be my files (work fine on Pocket PC version)
But even the demo file that comes with the installation "iSiloDisplaySample" is all squares. ALL MY files are like it.
The only thing I can see on it is the "iSiloManualS60" file.

Is this a problem with the software that iSilo have missed when offering up for download or is it specific to an N73? Does anyone have an E61 that they've run it successfully on? I know that the screen size on an N73 / N80 isn't very ideal but I'm hanging out for the new E90 which is just around the corner. That will give a wider display and is the first Communicator to be S60 on both the external display AND the internal. (9300 / 9500 are S40 on the outside and S80 on the main screen...)

I really wanted this to be the death of my iPaq but alas it has not been so.
I want to know if I'm alone in this or if there is a flaw in the software.
Or if there is a setting that I've missed that I need to select to display normal english characters.

:(

It does sound unusual that you are seeing squares with normal documents. It may be a font issue. With a document open, go to Menu/Edit/Options. In the "Read view options" screen go to the Font tab. On the Font tab, go to the "Font to use" field and select it. What are the font names that it lists?

Hi.
Thank you for your reply.
That was my initial thought. But it's not made a difference which one i choose.

there is 4 options:
[Default]
Sans MT UniT_HKSCS_S60
Sans MT 936_S60
Series 60 ZDigi

There is also the family name but that makes no change either.

It is worth noting however that titles seem to be ok. They are coming up in english, but it's the body of the text that's squares. Wherever there gp a new title or heading it's ok.

If you have any other ideas that would be great.

thanks

Steve

Try setting all font families to use the Sans MT 936_S60 font by following all of these steps in the given order on the Font tab:

In Family name, select Default.
In Font to use, select Sans MT 936_S60.
In Family name, select Serif.
In Font to use, select Sans MT 936_S60.
In Family name, select Sans serif.
In Font to use, select Sans MT 936_S60.
In Family name, select Monospace.
In Font to use, select Sans MT 936_S60.
Press OK.

Well Well Well!

Just before coming back to the forum I'd been playing and selected in the 'display' tab and selected 'all bold txt' and this showed up the words instead of squares. But I didnt' want this as some words you want bold and some not.

your fix however has done the trick! and I was worried that I'd have to do it for all documents individually, but it's remembered it.

Thank you SOOO much for fixing this for me.

I guess it's the old BOOT for my classic iPaq 2110.

Thank you again.

Steve.
