View Full Version : Handera rotate sticks

Hi!

I'm using a Handera 330 and I was very gratified to find a reader that allowed me to minimize my silkscreen and actually make use of the added space.

But I like to rotate it so it's horizontal. And that works pretty well, except it sticks. When I tap my Home icon to exit iSilo and go back to my menus, I'm still rotated til I un-rotate by hand. I'm sure you folks can fix that pretty easily now that you know it's a problem. :)

The only other probs I have are minimal: There should be a scroll icon on the taskbar. iSilo takes several seconds to load up, much longer than any other reader I've tried. The faster pause-time for the autoscroll is just a tiny bit too fast, and the slower one is a tiny bit too slow, a continuum with a few more choices would be nice (no smooth scrolling for me, I like my letters nice and clear!).

thanks
sl

I am not entirely sure I understand you. You seem to describe three unrelated problems here: 1) No autoscroll icon in the taskbar, 2) iSilo takes a long time to load, and 3) The autoscroll speed is not to your liking.

With respect to the first problem, you may wish to program one of your hardware buttons (Menu "Options/Button...") to function as an autoscroll toggle. I find this to be much more useful than a soft button would be.

With respect to the second problem, I am not sure what to say. iSilo loads immediately for me. The only delay is in the table formatting, a delay which appears to be proportional to the size of the document. However, I can still move within the document while processing occurs.

With respect to the third problem, most people seem unaware that the hardware up/down buttons control the speed of the autoscroll from within autoscroll mode. The range is from extremely slow to extremely fast, so I would be surprised if you could not find a speed setting to your liking.

Actually you missed the main problem.
The fact that it doesn't rotate back (reset that switch?) when I exit iSilo.

The speed thing: I know it goes extremely slow and extremely fast, but there aren't enuf options in between for me to get it exactly right.

Sorry. I saw the main problem, but I didn't address it because I'm not an iSilo developer. Just a guy trying to be helpful.

It is a shame to hear about your problem with the autoscroll speed. On my device (TH55 with iSilo 4.05b1b), I have nineteen autoscroll speeds (although about half of them are too slow to be useful). I believe ReadThemAll (Palm DOC reader with a different, and significantly better, scroll system) had much finer control, but the tradeoff was that it took a significant amount of time to greatly affect the scroll speed.

Thanks, I appreciate the effort. :)
I don't know the exact number, but I think your TH55 runs at something like 3-5x faster than my Handera.
I'm sure that probably makes a diff. ;)

It may or it may not. The TH55 scales itself down to as slow as 8 MHz (max 123 MHz), plus it must emulate the 68000 processor since I doubt iSilo includes ARMlets for native execution.

In either case, I have owned many PDAs including a Handspring Visor Deluxe and a Palm Vx. While I have not used a 4.x version of iSilo on my older units, it feels as if the scroll speeds have remained fairly consistent throughout.

It would be nice if they kept the same number of speed options but decreased the range (remove some of the much-too-slow slower speeds). I'd still push for a "real" scroll system, though. :-) (Animated GIF taken from the very slow ReadThemAll web site.)

I personally like the jump-scroll, it's the smooth-scroll that bothers me.
The jump-scroll, when set to the proper speed, is pretty much like pushing the down-button but automated, and that's cool. :)

Maybe I just need to train myself to read a little slower or a little faster. :P

By the way, is the TH55 one with a silkscreen? I mean, a collapsible graffiti area? I heard there were a few with that, but I don't know if that software would work on my Handera, since Handera was the original silkscreen....
