View Full Version : Capturing URL in iSiloX / Sorting

1- I tend to use iSilo to grab web pages (such as links from Arts & Letters Daily) for later reading. It would be nice if iSilox captured the URL and date of capture for the page(s) I convert, such information to be viewable in the document properties. Just for my own curiosity and as a reminder of where and when I captured the page. Sometimes this information isn't replicated on the page itself.

2- Because I sometimes store large numbers of documents for reading (and later deletion), I mainly keep them in Unfiled and then categorize them later if I want to keep them for reference. It would be nice to sort them not just alphabeticallly but by the date they were captured. Then I could blast through the oldest captures on my way to the newer pages.

3-When my list of unfiled documents gets long (like 7 screens worth) I'd *love* to be able to scratch a letter (like "T") in the graffiti window and have the list scroll automatically to the documents that begin with that letter. Would save me an awful lot of tapping on that scroll bar.

Overall, though, a great and flexible program. It's become my most-used app (apart from RocketMania :) ).

I second the push for recording the URL. I often read an article and then want to share it with my non-PDA friends. If I could copy/paste the URL into the Memo Pad (as I believe you can do in Plucker), that would be fantastic.

I was just going to post both suggestions as well, so I'll just add my comments here.

1. If a change in the iSilo format is too hard to accomodate source URL, why not implement an option in iSiloX to record the source RUL in one of the 'Messages' categories? (title, author, etc.) I never use them anyway, and sometimes I manually paste the URL in one of the fields.

It should be supremely easy to add the option in iSiloX so it does this automatically.

2. I would LOVE to see some sort of indexing feature so I can scratch or type a letter to navigate through the list.

I have no idea why, but I have lost my user categories in iSilo at least a few times over the years. Each time I end up with completely uncategorized or mis-categorized files, and it's a pain to manually re-categorize them. Right now I'm planning on trying to just organize by folder with the new iSilo beta to overcome this.

madmaxmedia,

I like your suggestion in part 1 (using one of the Messages fields), possibly using a substitution method (e.g., %SourceURL gets replaced by the source URL). However, the Messages are most likely "global" to the document and could not provide the URL of the page you are currently viewing.

As for your loss of categories, I have never experienced any problems until 4.05b1 and 4.05b2 (perhaps I have simply been lucky). I just want to give you a heads-up that latest beta appears to have fixed the problem, but you may wish to hold off a little longer before spending a significant amount of time recategorizing.

Perhaps the developers could implement a "Reset categories to default" as a work-around for any future occurences of this problem. :D
