View Full Version : Clipping in other browsers?
I use AvantBrowser as my day to day web browser (it's a wrappered version of IE with tabbed pages). However, the iSilo Clipper button doesn't work with it. I find that quickly saving a page to iSilo for offline reading a bit clunky. Cut & paste the URL, start up iSiloX, paste and press F5.
Does anyone have any tips on how to make this easier?
Thanks
John

Me too. I use Mozilla Firebird. In my opinion, it's much better than IE.

I use multiple browsers (esp Firefox and Avant!), and would love to be able to clip easily. Fortunately, there is an "easy" implementation of this: allow us to click on a tray icon that causes conversion of clipboard material as though that material were selected in IE (on the clipboard it will be in RTF). This would also greatly facilitate getting any info from ANY APP quickly and easily on the palm! If the user could specify a default category for items converted from clipboard (maybe double-click would do a "quick convert" that wouldn't ask for more parameters, just get the text and put it in the "quick" category…), it would be easy to have a list of things to go through on the palm later on…
Behind the scenes, iSiloX could even simply save the clipboard material to an .htm file and convert that file with user-selected settings…
The potential roadblock: I don't know if the site from which the clipboard material came would be available in the clipped material (maybe it is as metadata?). So some url filters wouldn't be able to work, at least w/o letting the user specify a different originating location (in this case besides the local directory).

If you guys are willing to try another browser you could give MyIE2 (http://www.myie2.com) a shot. It's a very customisable front-end for internet explorer with tabbed browsing, mouse gestures, built-in popup and ad blocking, and.... there's a plugin for the iSiloX clipper. The plugin was given to me by the guy who wrote it and if any of you are interested I can ask him if he'll allow me to pass it on.
If you've never tried MyIE2 I seriously recommend it - browsing's never been as much fun. There's also a wonderful user community over at their forums (http://m2.overseasky.net/).

Another vote for MyIE2. I love it. Used Avant Browser in the past, switched to MyIE2. A couple of versions had some quirks, but the latest (0.9.18.20 I think) works really well for me.
Best of all... the ISiloX toolbar button works flawlessly for me! MyIE2 allows you to incorporate IE toolbars. So I installed the iSiloX toolbar in IE, then enabled it through MyIE2. I'm not sure about the plugin from another developer mentioned... That wasn't necessary for me.

i would love if you could share the plugin that was developed for other browsers for isilox. I tried enabling the plugin for myie2 , but isilox does not show up in the list
Thanks

Found an alternative for people who use other broswers.
QEX2 from http://www.qland.de/qex2/
This is a clipboard convertor.
Run it and set up clipboard by clicking on
"Clip Setup"
Tick the File Count up box.
Select User you want it to install to.
Minimise, a little blue icon appears in your task bar.

In browser hightlight text, and rightclick, copy.
Right click on blue icon and convert clipboard.
In your install dir there should now be a file containing the text from the clipboard. with the fille count on you'll get "clipboard001,clipboard002" etc.
Its not an ideal solution, but it works for now until the isilo developers make a clipper for other browsers (hint hint). I tried it with Firefox.
It works with any text that can be handled by windows clipboard, which is a bonus.
