Greetings!

I am working on converting a document for use on handheld devices. At the moment I am focusing on the Palm. The document is text from a reference book. It is currently divided into several Word 2003 files for final editing and to enter 1000s of page jumps for the subject index and footnotes. As you might image the original file size is tremendous.

The files are saved in Word to HTM then converted using iSiloX 4.01 for viewing on the Palm. Unfortunately three of the pages containing the bulk of the links consistently convert improperly. In several places the "<" tag is missing resulting in the HTML showing up in the text of the document. The error does not show up when viewing the pages in a desktop web browser (I've tried several) and is present in the body of the iSilo document, not at the links.

Any suggestions?

Word could be generating some HTML that iSiloX fails to parse properly. Would you be able to zip up one of the Word files (preferably the smallest one) and the corresponding HTML file and send the zip as an attachment via email to email at isilo dot com so that we can reproduce the issue to determine the cause?

Would you be able to resend it and use "iSilo support sample" as the subject of the message? If you sent it before, it seems to not have gotten through. How large is the zip file?

Did you make sure to use "iSilo support sample" as the subject of the message?

Also, you didn't answer the question about the size. How large is the zip file?

Yep, I used the requested subject name. The zipped file size is 151kb.

The zip file is small enough, so please post it in your reply here on the forum.

Quickly scanning through the document, I wasn't able to see a problem. Could you maybe point me to exactly where the problems are? Maybe list the words where the problems appear. Also, what version of iSiloX are you using?

In the glossary the error only occurs once and it tends to jump around. In the most recently parsed version it is after the entry for Primacy. The "<" tag from the HTML is simply left off. FYI, the parsing error is an on/off occurance. One time it may occur, the next it won't. However, in the larger documents it always occurs, though not always in the same place. Very frustrating! (The quickest way to find the error is to do a search for "<".)

I am using version 4.01.

Is there a way I can pull the iSilo document and zip it for either posting here or emailing so you can see what I'm seeing?

Searching for < results in no matches, so I'm not getting the issue that you are seeing (converting with iSiloX version 4.01).

You say that the location of the error jumps around. Is that even if you don't change the source document and just re-convert with the same unchanged source multiple times?

When you get a scenario where you do the conversion and get the issue with the < characters, please post the .doc, .htm, and .pdb files as a set. That may help give me a better idea of what the problem might be.

Sorry, it's late. That should by ">" since the "<" is the one that's dropped. Yes, I'm working with the same five documents and I just tried another conversion and got the same parsing error.

The pdb is too large to upload (915k zipped). Can I email it to you?

Yes, please email the zip file.

Thanks for the correction. I was able to find the ">". It looks like a bug in parsing of the HTML by iSiloX.

The fix is in the just released beta of iSiloX 4.05b1. Please download it from http://www.iSiloX.com/info/beta/index.htm and give it a try to verify that the problem is fixed.
