Just got myself a Life Drive (upgraded from a T3) and loaded all of the programs via a hot sync. iSilo loaded ok, but it has gone to the "internal memory" (as did all of the programs I have) which is just 65.2mb and not to the large 3.7gb Life Drive memory. So now when I convert a large document (for instance 64mb), that document also tries to go to the internal memory and of coarse it bombs out due to not enough memory. How do I get the document to go to the Life Drive memory? Any help will be appreciated.

If you are using iSiloX to convert documents, then you need to set the destination to HotSync/External memory card, as the hard drive of the LifeDrive is viewed as an external memory card.

For the file that is already queued for installation to the internal memory, you will need to find it and delete it so that the HotSync process does not continually try to install it. It should be located in a subdirectory named "Install" within the directory where your Palm data files and backup files are stored, possibly c:\Program Files\Palm\(HotSync name).

Thanks - I found the file in the "Install" folder, clicked on it which then added it to the PalmOne Quick Install program. At first it went to the "Inernal Memory" so I dragged it down to the "External Card" - (still not the LifeDrive 3.7gb memory!) Performed a HotSync and got this message:

- Install failed: C:\Program Files\Palm\PrassiP\Install\Victoria.pdb
The memory in your handheld may be full. To check the available memory, select Menu/Info from the handheld's Application Launcher.
Install synchronization failed

But then the next line said:

OK Expense
- Installed file: Victoria.pdb to Expansion Card.

Not sure what happened there, but the file is on the External Card which is 128mb so it handles the 70mb file ok. Still can't work out how to go direct to the 3.7gb memory though.

You may not be able to use the Quick Install program. Although I can't say for sure, I believe you are supposed to use the "Life Drive Manager" to install files to that drive. It does not appear to be a part of the Palm Desktop software, but you can probably find it on the CD that came with the unit.

Alternatively, if you are the one doing the conversions, then you may specify which expansion card (by name) to use in iSiloX. One way of finding the name of the drive might be to select "App/Info..." from the Launcher and looking at the drop-down list of "Devices". Note that this functionality requires iSilo (just the program) be installed in main memory.

You can attach the LifeDrive to your desktop computer via the USB cable and have it appear to your computer as a removeable drive to and from which you can copy files. To do this, connect your LifeDrive to your computer using the USB HotSync cable that came with the device. Then on your LifeDrive, start the "Drive Mode" program and tap the "Turn Drive Mode On" button. On your computer, if you then start File Explorer, you should see your LifeDrive's hard drive appear as a removeable drive to which you can copy files.

Yes that is right! It is not a straight forward process though - as I just found out. I had to intervene and bypass "HotSync". Found the file in the Install file on the PC, copied and pasted the file into the LifeDrive file after setting up "Drive Mode" on the device. Then when it was transferred across I had to find the file and open it to "connect" it to Isilo - otherwise whenever I opened Isilo on the device it would not recognise the new file.

Thanks for your thinking.

Thanks - after a bit of mucking around I found the right Removable Storage to copy the file to. (problem at first was that two "removable storages" appeared?? E and F.) The whole process is still not that easy to do and requires a few steps, but after doing it a few times you get used to the process and think it is normal.

Thanks again.
