I am trying to convert the following page using iSilo:
http://vedabase.net/sb/1/1/1/en
as you can see the page uses diacritics, for example:
oḿ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya
It can be seen ok on the webpage but when I convert it into iSilo PDB and view it on my PDA, the diacritics (accents) are not displayed properly.
I checked the character set of the document and it seems to be ISO-8859-1.
What is the problem here ?? Can someone help ??

The page uses ISO-8859-1 as its base encoding, but it uses characters not in the character set covered by ISO-8859-1 by using numeric character references, such as "& # 3 4 6 ;" (without the spaces) for Ś.
You would need to set the output encoding to "Unicode (UTF-8)" to get those extra characters and they will only display if your system supports those characters.

Thanks for your kind reply. So lets say I encode it as UTF-8, will I be able to display the extra characters correctly on my Palm Device (Treo 650).
I converted "Arial Unicode MS" using iSiloX and installed it on my Palm Device. I opened the document in question again, but, still did not display correctly. Is this because I converted "Arial Unicode MS" font using western-1252 character set ???
Does iSiloX support conversion of fonts with UTF-8 character set ? Thanks in advance !

It will not work on Palm OS as the fonts do not support Unicode.
But all other platforms (e.g., Windows, Pocket PC, Symbian, etc.) have Unicode support so for those other platforms, it is basically only a matter of the font.

Thanks for your wonderful support. :) This is a big shortcoming of the Palm OS definitely.

It will not work on Palm OS as the fonts do not support Unicode.
Would it be possible to add some kind of character translation support into iSiloXC that would allow specifying mapping problem characters into an appropriate substition character? In other words, specify in the .ixl file that whenever it uses Unicode character x, substitute y instead.

Consider it another request/suggestion (http://forum.isilo.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33).
