View Full Version : Trouble with image maps

I'm having problems getting image maps to work. I have files in MS FrontPage that have image maps created via HotSpots. When I view the compiled iSilo doc in iSilo for Windows, the hot spots/image mapped links are not recognized. On one page, the whole image links back to a target of part of the image (ie. doesn't recognize the hot spot). On another, it acted as if the image wasn't hyperlinked to anything.
Any known issues about this? Suggestions?

The HotSpots may be using some other method of achieving its result. Would you be able to post a sample file that we can look at?

I think I've partially resolved the problem. Within FrontPage I was able to have a whole photo link to a specific destination and then have a HotSpot covering part of that photo link to a different destination (kind of like layers). That seemed to cause a problem for iSiloX. When I changed it so that there were just two non-overlapping HotSpots, it seems to work better. Now the different parts of the image are linking to different targets but for some reason the links from one of the HotSpots on each photo is broken.
I've attached the source files, the .ixl file and my compiled .pdb file.
The photos on pages 2 and 3 have HotSpots. Clicking on the text/title is supposed to link to a different page than clicking on other parts of the photo but these links are broken.
Any ideas why these links are coming out as broken? All the source files are in the same directory and when I look in the source code, the links don't include a path. But when iSilo shows me the broken links, they list the whole destination path (which seems like it should be correct anyway).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for the sample files.
The issue with the image maps not working is that there is a bug in iSilo when calculating the location on the image that is clicked when the image is centered. This issue will be addressed in the next update, probably to enter beta in a couple of weeks.
For the broken links, you need to increase the link depth from one to two, since the links from the image map are at a depth of two.

Thanks.

Once I got rid of the overlapping HotZones the image map seems to be working fine for me.
Another question:
Image maps are a feature that was added in iSiloX 4.2. Can earlier versions of iSilo (pre 4.2) recognize image maps or must iSilo also be version 4.2 or later?
Also, if image maps are not recognized on earlier versions of iSilo, what would happen? Would the links be broken? Just not recognized as links?

In versions of iSilo prior to version 4.2, you would get a message along the lines of "The hyperlink does not resolve to any location in this document."
